Elizabeth Ruth Greene Hopkins passed away at her home June 24,2016 of natural causes. She was 92. Elizabeth {Betty} was born January 3,1924 in Chico to Maude and Bert Greene. She was one of 6 children and grew up in Oroville. She graduated from Chico State College. While in college, Betty was editor of the college newspaper and served as the college’s first woman Student Body President. She was also a member of Alpha Chi Sorority. After graduation, Betty was hired for her first teaching position at central school in Chico; a middle school that was located near the Chico State campus. Betty completed her teaching career almost 40 years later, retiring from Rosedale Elementary School in Chico. After retirement she became a published author of several children’s books. She also accompanied her husband John Hopkins on his speaking trips with California Retired Teachers Association and worked as a Page at the California State Capitol in Sacramento when her husband was a California Senior Senator. Betty was preceded by her husband of almost 70 years, John Hopkins, her infant son John, her 5 siblings and her parents. A grandmother of 9 and a great- grandmother of 6. Betty is also survived by her daughter Priscilla {Alois} Scott. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m at Chico Cemetery.
