Runy was born in Harlem, Ga. on Augusta 23, 1952, to Darrene and Heggie Whitaker. She graduated from Harlem High School and Augusta College where she earned her teaching degree. While attending Augusta College, she worked as the Kindergarten teacher at the University Hospital Child Care Center. After graduating from Augusta College, she taught first grade at Hornsby Elementary School for 14 years. She also served as the Youth Director at Lake Park Baptist Church in the 1970’s.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Darrene and Heggie Whitaker, sisters, Vivian Mitchell and Ann Anderson, 1 brother, Edward Whitaker, and 2 brothers-in-law, Sonny Mitchell and Squeak Anderson.
She is survived by 6 brothers and sisters, Ervin Whitaker (Mary), Van Inglett (Paul), Vanessa McCorkle (Wayne), Velma Sager, Dillie Hollimon (Kenneth), Wayne Whitaker (Lynn); sister-in-law Linda Whitaker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Runy will be remembered for her love of her Savior, her compassion and encouragement, and for being a faithful prayer warrior. Countless lives and souls have been touched by her faithful prayers and unconditional love. Runy will be deeply missed by all those left to cherish her memory.
