Daughter of William M. and China Ross Black. Born in Arkansas near Fort Smith on November 9, 1840 and died of paralysis near Leander on August 2, 1909.

After Marinda married William, they moved to Burnet County and settled in the Strickland Community near Black's Fort. After William returned from serving in the Confederate Army, they purchased land on the Bagdad prairie and began farming.

William and Marinda had ten children: John M., Mary E. (Mollie), W. Chalmers, James C., Edward Henderson, Margaret J. (Maggie), Charles Franklin, George Lewis, Henry Gilbert (Gid), and Lora Abagail (Abbie) Faubion.
