Obituary for Raymond Wilson Woolfenden, Jr., a.k.a "Buddy"

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on 25 March, 1938, Ray was the son of Raymond Wilson Woolfenden, Sr. and Mabel Irene Liming Murphy. Ray was the son of a musician and radio personality. He grew up moving from town to town, school to school, as the family followed his father's career.
In 1956, at the age of 18, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Coral Sea. His service in the Navy was a source of great pride to him.
After his discharge from the Navy, Ray joined his dad in Ohio where he met the love of his life, Norma Jane Black. On 4 Feb 1961 Ray and Norma would wed at the Christian Tabernacle in Canton.
Ray and Norma would have four children, two of whom, Tim Woolfenden and Troy Woolfenden preceded him in death. Ray began working for Canton Drop Forge in 1965 and retired from the firm in April of 2000 after 35 years of service. In retirement he volunteered for Community Harvest, delivering food and medical supplies to those in need. He was a family historian, working for years on his family tree. Ray lived for 49 years at his home in Canton. After retiring, he purchased another 1938 Model A Ford, which he loved to take to car shows and drive in holiday parades. His first car was, a 1938 Model A, which was the year that he was born. But, his true passion was his family and his two dogs Oreo and Precious.
He passed after a long battle with cancer at his home, with many of his family by his side. He is survived by his wife Norma Black Woolfenden of Canton, Ohio; step mother Doris Woolfenden of Triangle, Virginia; son Terry Collier of Canton, Ohio; daughter Tiena Woolfenden Mallett and her husband Patrick Mallett of Tampa Bay, Florida; brothers Reggie Woolfenden Murphy, and his wife Jane Murphy of Melbourne, Florida; Mike Murphy and his wife Joy Murphy, of Greenville, South Carolina; Raynee Woolfenden and his wife Sandra Woolfenden of Fairfax, Virginia; and two surviving sisters, Casmere Woolfenden Kistner and her husband Frank Kistner of Fairfax, Virginia; and, Raneir Woolfenden Hart and her husband Andrew Hart of Triangle, Virginia. He had nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Burial will be at Belle Haven Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, in the former community of Kopp, Virginia. The cemetery is aboard the Marine Corps Base, Quantico. Burial will be on Sunday, August 28th at 4 pm.
