Mr. Travis Lamar Bowen, 70 of Blackshear, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 15, 2016, at Mayo Health Systems – Waycross.

Born in Blackshear, GA on February 1, 1946, Mr. Bowen had lived in Pierce County all of his life. He was a 1964 graduate of Blackshear High School where he had been one of the best basketball players the Tigers had ever had. He went on to own his own business, Bowen Plumbing and Electric, from which he was retired. Mr. Bowen loved the outdoors and enjoyed outdoor cooking. He was a football (Georgia) and NASCAR (Dale Earnhardt, Jr.) fan, enjoyed dancing, and dearly loved his grandchildren.

He was a son of the late Walter Vernon & Thelma Jacobs Bowen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Susan Keith Bowen; two sisters, Sue Boudreax and Sharon Dixon; and by a brother, Gene Bowen.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Kim & Charles Teabo of Blackshear, Krista & Mark Youmans of Waycross, and Kellie & Hank Thorne of Offerman; a son, Keith Bowen of Waycross; two sisters, Sandra (Rodney) Jeffords of Atlanta and Sonja (Bubba) Roberts of Orlando; two brothers, Donald (Francis) Bowen of Atlana and Jimmy Bowen of Rincon; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

A memorial service for Mr. Bowen will be held at 6:00 o’clock Friday evening, June 17, 2016, at the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Memorialization will be by cremation.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
