Services for Dorothy "Duff" Joyce Smith, 95, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:30 PM at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dave Whitman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Duff was born on September 25, 1918 in Overton, Nebraska to George G. and Laura (Fillingham) Wyman and passed away at Mesa Springs Nursing Home in Abilene, Texas on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Duff graduated from High School at Overton, Nebraska and the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Nebraska. She married Dr. Robert Smith Sr. on September 29, 1941. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and the very talented church pianist for over 30 plus years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; member of PEO; has been a member of Order of Eastern Star, Lovington Chapter #35 since 1946 and she played the piano for the enjoyment of Good Samaritan residents on Thursdays for twenty years. Duff was also a member of the "Cracked Pots Bible Study Group" and she played in the bell choir at First United Methodist Church and was a very active member of the Lovington community. In early years she was the secretary for Smith Medical Clinic. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one sister and three brothers. She is survived by one son: Dr. Bob and wife Cheryl Smith of Granbury, TX and one daughter: Lynda and husband John Stearns of Abilene, TX; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Visitation will be on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home with the family in residence from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 745, Lovington, NM 88260 or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to www.kirbysmithrogers.com.
