Rebecca was the daughter of Benjamin D. Simpson and Mary G. Robertson-Robinson.

She was married first in 1842 to Thomas Archer. Rebecca and Thomas had three sons; Benjamin, William Marion, and James M. Archer.

She was married second in 1860 to James Marion P. Gilmore. Rebecca and James had twin daughters, Martha Ann and Permelia Gilmore. Rebecca and James also raised Rebecca's niece Millie Simpson-Gilmore.

Mrs. Rebecca Gilmore, wife of James Gilmore was buried today 8 Jan. 1900. She had lived long in Drywood Twp., long before the Rebellion, and being a strong believer in the Rebellion, she advocated the cause so strongly by talking, the Union Forces arrested her and sent her to St. Louis and kept her in Federal Prison, for several months. After being released from Prison she returned to Drywood Twp. where she has spent the remainder of her life, striving to live a peaceable life. She was a faithful member of the M. E. Church, South, and was 75. Her husband is still living and is 86.
