Joël S. Dubay, 94, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Elliot Hospital in Manches- ter, New Hampshire, with his family by his side. Born April 17, 1920 in St-Léonard-Parent, New Brunswick, Canada, Joël was the eldest child and firstborn son of the late Napoléon and Anna (Soucy) Dubé and had been a resident of Portsmouth since 1939. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served his country dur- ing World War II, after which he worked in several area mills before going to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter.

Joël retired from the shipyard in 1974 and then went to work driving a school bus for several years. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus - Saint Mary's Assembly, the Corpus Christi parish, the Disabled Ameri- can Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was survived by two of his three daughters, Nancy Bergeron (and her husband Armand) of Litchfield, New Hampshire, and Lisa Cummings (and her husband David) of Somers- worth, New Hampshire; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his youngest brother, Romeo Dubé (and his wife Rachel) of Dover, New Hampshire; and many nieces and neph- ews. He was predeceased by his wife Alphena (Cyr) Dubay in 2011; an infant son; a daugh- ter Priscilla (Dubay) Bowker; a grandson Randy Cummings; and nine brothers and sisters.

Visiting hours were held on Wednesday, Janu- ary 7, at the Farrell Funeral Home in Ports- mouth; and a Mass of Christian Burial was cel- ebrated on Thursday at the Immaculate Con- ception Church, after which Joël was interred at Calvary Cemetery.
