and Mamie (nee Buhler) Wimberly. He was raised in the Heights, and graduated from John H. Reagan High School. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets and graduated from Texas A&M College in 1931. He was also a member of A&M Sul Ross Club. Vernon retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of Lt. Colonel after serving in WWII. He saw action in the Pacific theater. He worked for Exxon for 30 years as a Civil Engineer and retired in 1970, Active in the Methodist Church.
