A difficult battle with an aggressive form of throat cancer has claimed the life of Pearl (Allgood) Rainforth. She died at her home in Lincoln on May 28, 2016, at the age of 66.
Pearl Ladema (Allgood) Rainforth was born September 19, 1949 to Orville Clyde and Ellen Pearl (Applegate) Allgood in Auburn, NE. She was one of nine children growing up in Peru, NE.

Her formal years of school were at Peru. She cried each year, until 6th grade, when starting school because she had to leave her mom. She could not swim in PE or type in typing. Her favorite classes were Math and English. She was in the last graduating class of Peru Prep High School.

She graduated from Peru State College in 1970 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Math. Her teaching career took her to Oakland, IA, Lincoln, Nebraska City Junior High and 20+ years of substitute teaching in Lincoln and surrounding schools.

She married David Rainforth, February 14, 1969 in Auburn, NE. It was a blizzard and we had trouble getting up the hills of Peru. Their family grew with the adoption of three children: Ellie Shalom, Rachel Dawn, and Nicholas David.
She is survived by husband David, children Ellie (Andy) Elliott, Rachel (fiancé Eric Mason) Rainforth, and Nicholas (Brette) Rainforth. Grandchildren: McKenna and Brooklyn Elliott, Harper and Carson Rainforth and Talulah Mason. Siblings: Darrell (Jan), Marty, Ron (Darlene), and Arnie (Cathy) Allgood, and sister-in-law Mary Allgood. Brother-in-laws: Dan (Pat), Steve (Janet), and Len (Diana) Rainforth. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was proceeded in death by her: father and mother, sister-in-law Sandra, brother Eldon, sister Laquita and her husband Roy Rubenking, infant sibling Orval Clyde, and sister Deborah. Her father and mother-in-law Maurice and Margaret (Mahurin) Rainforth.

Pearl was known for many great qualities, one of which was her passion for family and providing children the opportunity of education through play at Pearl's Playtime. Many children shared this fun learning environment in their Syracuse home. She spearheaded many nieces and nephews sleep overs, camping trips and outings to zoos, children's museums, parks, swimming, etc.

Pearl enjoyed being involved in the community through theatre productions, church, community projects, and their children's activities. Early in our marriage two of her favorite musicals were Camelot and Fiddler on the Roof.
What she loved most was spending time with her close friends and family. She played in a ladies Cards Group for over 40 years. With a group of families known as, the Games Group, they enjoyed monthly family activities such as Christmas caroling, camping, and flying kites, etc.
Despite not being very tech-savvy, Pearl managed to maintain close relationships with friends and family through her love of letter writing. She enjoyed and looked forward to playing cards with her Mom, siblings, nieces and nephews and taking her Mom to the Casino. Her brother, Eldon, loved to tease and joke and Pearl was one of his favorite targets. She was the gullible kind, but she loved Eldon dearly.

Her faith was important. She was baptized July 21, 1968 at the Disciples of Christ Church in Peru, NE. At the many churches that she was a member she would drag her children to the many activities and regular services. Her current church is Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Due to having a modest upbringing, she learned to carefully budget her earning, She was a conservative, but according to Dave that did not apply to her gambling. She loved going to garage sales and auctions. She has spread that philosophy, of finding the bargain, to her children and grandchildren. During the early years of our marriage, auctions were much more fun and productive to furnish our home. She had a creative, Martha Stewart, gift to turn a misfit into a treasure.

Pearl was a communicator. She loved to visit and share stories. It saddened and hurt when the cancer took away her voice. Reading to her grandkids, talking to her family, siblings and friends, screaming and hollering at her kids and grandkids ball games were important in her life.
A note from Pearl.

These thoughts have been floating around in my head. I'm lucky, some people die in their sleep or killed in an accident. I know it now so I can give you all some instructions, (does that sound like Pearl), suggestions, and thanks for the love and life I have had. I said at the beginning I am okay with dying, I believe in the promises of Heaven. Dave, the kids and grandkids will be fine. I am glad that I was here long enough that the grandkids will remember me.
