He is survived by his love of 32 years, Carole A. Carter; his six children, Debra, Annette, Christine, Teresa, Phillip, and Paul; two grandchildren, and a great grandchild, to arrive June 2007; six step children and their families. His brother, Leroy and a sister, Sharon Carter, also survive him.
Mel's passion was racing and anything mechanical. Through the years he spent may loving hours meticulously repairing and restoring anything that came across his path, from lighters to race cars, and to vintage tractors.
Mel was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend.
Graveside services are October 28, 2006, in Rock Prairie Cemetery, Halltown, under direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic.
