Ray Powell was born July 18, 1923 in Slayton, Minnesota to Ira and Mabel Like Powell. He grew up near Slayton and attended country school. Ray enlisted in the United States Army on November 29, 1944. On September 10, 1945 he and Beulah Smestad were married in Slayton, MN. Ray was honorable discharge on July 31, 1946 and returned to Slayton and his bride. They made their home in Slayton and Ray worked road construction in the spring and summer and in the fall and winter he drove a delivery route. In the late 1950’s Ray purchased a truck and became a contracted driver for Moorman Feed Company. Ray retired in 1985 but not for long he soon started doing delivery’s for Rosen Chemical Company. He again retired in 1995. In December 2015 Ray became a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton where he passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the age of 92. Ray was an active member of the Slayton United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Slayton VFW Post #6322. Ray served on the Slayton City Council and the Peoples State Bank Advisory Board. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, and watching sports especially the Minnesota Twins. Ray always felt honored to be able to say he spent his whole life in Slayton.

Survivors include his wife, Beulah Powell of Slayton, MN; four children and their spouses, Karen Powell of Omaha, NE, Russell and Lynda Powell of Pequot Lakes, MN, Bradley and Sharon Powell of West Union, SC, and Nancy and Jim Phipps of River Falls, WI; nine grandchildren; Dennis and Marianne Tims, David and Kim Tims, Michelle and Randy Strobel, James Powell, Shannon Powell, Cherene and Casey Crable, Dr. Erin Powell and Josh Pospisil, Zachary Phipps, and Ryan Phipps and ten great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, Dorothy Finch and husband, Ed, Ernest Powell, and Donna and husband, Paul Boever.

Funeral Services are in the United Methodist Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Chad Setter officiating. The organist is Janet Voges with special music by Sue Muck. The pallbearers are his grandchildren. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN. Military honors accorded by the Slayton VFW Post and the Slayton American Legion Post.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 30, 2016 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.
