The funeral of Mrs. Gehke Bohlken was solemnized by Rev. W. L. Schuetz, at St. John's Lutheran church, last Saturday, the 2nd inst. The funeral was largely attended by the relatives and many friends of the good woman. Mrs. Bohlken was born July 30th, 1821, at Hesel, Germany. She was married in 1843, to Gerd Johnson Bohlken, and in 1873 they followed three of their children to Jones county, and commenced their residence on a farm in Scotch Grove township. Mr. Bohlken died in 1886, and his widow continued to occupy he homestead until the death of her youngest boy which occurred three years ago. After that time she made her home with her son Henry in Monticello. The deceased possessed fairly good health, barring some rheumatic affections, until recently. Her illnes was of four weeks duration. Mrs Bohlken was the mother of eight children, five of whom survive, She is also survived by thirty-seven grand children and seventeen great grandchildren. The surviving children are George and Henry Bohlken, Mrs. Gerd Ricklefs, Mrs. Philip Hilderbrand, all of whom reside in this county, and Mrs. Carl Ferrichs of Coleridge Nebraska.
