Louie Larry Denton passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Grand Junction, CO, early May 10, 2016, at age 77, leaving his wife of almost 55 years.

Louie entered this world as son of Tom and Marguerite Denton on March 15, 1939; spending his childhood on farms in the Fruita, Loma, Mack area. He was raised with his five living brothers, Edward (Ellen), of Fruita, Earle, of Grand Junction, Claude, of Woody Creek, Glen (Charlotte), of Collbran, and Ernest (Marie), of Hotchkiss; and deceased brother, Gene. Louie's sisters are Beverly Burnell, of Grand Junction, and June (Paul) DeVries, of Justin, TX.

He attended area schools, then entered the Navy. Upon returning home, he married Carrol "Jane" DeVries on September 15, 1961. Their love brought a son, Marty, and daughter, Nikkii, into the world.

They moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Louie attended Spartan Aviation School, getting his A&P and P&P licenses for aircraft. The family returned to Grand Junction and Louie went into construction until he became disabled in 1987.

Louie's family continued to grow to become six grandchildren: Jarred, of California, Erika (Leaya) Johnson, of Evans, Kyla (Shannon) Gottards, of Longmont, Devyn and Tanner, of Grand Junction, and Makayla, of Fruita. He also has one great-grandson, Emmitt, of Longmont, with another one to enter this family in December.

Louie's pastimes were family, fishing, hunting, gardening, mechanics, collecting junk, and later reading and memories.

During raising their children they were foster parents of several children; the last ones were Beth and Cyndi David.

Funeral services will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at New Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita at 1:00 p.m., with military honors. After these services, there will be a potluck at his home with family and friends.

Family wishes for contributions to be made to the VA Administrative Medical Center, 2121 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
