From the Pawnee Courier-Democrat newspaper
Thursday, Dec. 21, 1933:

"The death of G. G. Barber removes from among us a man who throughout his life, has been an outstanding character among his fellow men.
"One of the peculiar characteristics of Mr. Barber was his steadfast adherence to his own convictions. While he was always chairtable [sic] toward the opinions of others, it was but time wasted to try to change his own opinions after they were once formed.
"Mr. Barber, before his eye sight failed him was a great reader, and one of the best informed men in Pawnee on many subjects.
"Mr. Barber was always honest in his opinions, and never definitely formed a conclusion, until he had viewed both sides of the question under study. He was honest in his dealings with his fellowman and strove with all his might to make good his promises. He will be missed in Pawnee."
Mr. Barber's first wife was Anna Fitch Martin. Their children were Gertrude, Caroline, Everett J., Joseph, and Garnett G., Jr., as well as two children who died in infancy. She died in 1901, after which time, he married Rebecca James Zinn.
