Dr. Switzer passed away Apr 12, 1952. He was 94 years old. Dr. Switzer was born in Peterboro, Madison County to Simon and Mary (Phelps) Switzer on Nov 1, 1857.
He was a carpenter and builder as a young man in Wayne County. Deciding that the veterinary field offered excellent possibilities he entered the Ontario Veterinary College at Toronto, Ont., Canada and was graduated three years later.
Dr. Switzer then located in Williamson where he established an extensive practice. In 1899 he decided to relocate to Oswego. For years he maintained a veterinary hospital there. During his last years of practice it was mainly confined to smaller animals.
For many years Dr. Switzer served as secretary of the New York State Veterinary Medical society and Central New York State Veterinary Medical society, in which he was instrumental in organizing.
He married Hattie Skellenger on Apr 20 1882 in Wayne County, she died Jun 2, 1925. He then married Mrs. Cora Adams Jones on Oct 31, 1925 in Morrisville, she died Feb 5, 1939. Then he married Mrs. Lena Auringer Schaufler on Jul 13, 1939 in Oswego.
Dr. Switzer leaves his wife Lena Auringer, a son; Attorney Merritt A. Switzer and his wife Jean. Two grandchildren; Edith and her husband Cameron Cox, Bud Switzer and Anne. 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and first wife Hattie, his second wife Cora. Three brothers; Frederick, Frank, and Adelbert. Three sisters; Harriet, Mary, and Carrie.
Dr. Switzer will be buried in Riverside Cemetery in Oswego.
