Hugh Christy was the son of William and Mary Comer Christy.

Obituary
Hugh Christy was born in Indiana July 29, 1841, and died at his home east of Floris, Iowa on April 16, 1912, aged 70 years, 9 months, and 16 days .
In 1862 he married Mary Fisk who survives him. To this union eight children were born, three of whom preceeded him in death. The five living are Mrs. Ida Carr, Ottumwa, Iowa, David and Ephriam Christy of Floris, Iowa, Mrs. Carrie Balese of Eldon, Iowa, and Mrs. Fannie Thompson of Floris, Iowa. In 1864 he enlisted in Company D 3rd Iowa Calvary, and served in the Civil War, where he contracted the disease which finally ended in his death.
In 1871 he became a member of the Christian Church and remained a faithful member until his death.
Funeral services were held at the Christian Church at Floris, conducted by the Rev. D.W. Hastings. Interment at the Jay Cemetery.

He was a farmer in Salt Creek twp. until retiring and moving to 40 acres at the edge of Floris. He attended the 1895 and 1902 Third Iowa Cavalry reunions.
