Charlotte Hawley, 97, Tripp, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society, Tripp.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Tripp, with the Rev. John Rader officiating. Burial will be in Gracehill Cemetery, Tripp. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Goglin Funeral Home, Tripp. There will be a 7 p.m. wake service today at the church, with Deacon Barry Wagner officiating.
She was born on March 3, 1913, in Tripp to Ernest and Mary (Dangel) Kotas.
She graduated from Tripp High School and earned her teaching certificate from General Beadle State College, Madison.
On May 25, 1943, she married Ivyn Hawley at Mount Vernon.
She taught country school for more than 25 years and received awards from the state of South Dakota and Tripp-Delmont School District.
She and her husband were also foster parents.
She spent many years as an adult literacy tutor.
She became a resident of Good Samaritan Society in January 2007.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers: John Kotas, William Kotas and Ralph Kotas; and a sister, Loretta Walz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Tripp-Delmont High School toward the Charlotte Hawley Scholarship Fund for future teachers.
