Francis C. "Frank" Brungardt, 85, Victoria, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Via Christi Village Care Center, Hays.

He was born July 1, 1930, in Victoria to Edgar F. and Lydia (Staab) Brungardt.

He married Twila (Roth) on Oct. 17, 1953, in Hays. She preceded him in death Aug. 19, 2012.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy. He was an insurance agent and he and his wife owned F & M Insurance in Victoria for more than 50 years and owned Brungardt's Liquor Store. He started his career with his father at Farmers National Bank in Victoria. He served on the Rural Telephone Board from April 1967 to May 2014. He served as president from August 2003 until June 2011. He also served as Vice President and Secretary Treasurer. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1751, and 3rd Degree and 4th Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus, all of Victoria.

Survivors include five daughters, Mary Beth Stern, Phoenix, Margaret Gifford and husband, Wayne, Wichita, Marla Robben and husband, Rick, Walker, Melaine Collins and husband, Terry, Litchfield Park, Ariz., and Melissa Haley and husband, Keith, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two sisters, Rosie Schulte, Victoria, and Betty Basgall, Hays; sister-in-law, Betty Brungardt.

Eleven grandchildren, Thomas Stern and wife, Amy, Meghan Stern, Mark Stern, Travis Prosser, Troy Prosser, Brandon Robben and wife, Michale, Clayton Robben, Jordan Robben, Morgan Collins, Daniel Collins, Madison Haley; four step-grandchildren, Lance Gifford, Clinton Gifford and wife, Christina, Breanna Oliver and husband, Kevin, Kristjan Haley, two great-grandchildren, Joseph Robben and Skylar Stern; and four step-great-grandchildren, Bobbi Gifford, Gunner Gifford, Brodie Oliver and Riley Oliver.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward "Eddie" Brungardt; a sister, Almeda Hoffman; and four brothers-in-law, Melvin Gross, Al Basgall, Albert Hoffman and Dennis Schulte.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria with military honors by the Victoria V.F.W. Post No. 1751. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Monday, both at the basilica. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday and a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 8: p.m., all at the basilica. The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the basilica.

Memorials are suggested to the Basilica of St. Fidelis. Cline's Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria, KS 67671, is in charge of arrangements.
