Mr. Charles William Polk, Sr., affectionately known by many as “Charlie Pop”, age 72, entered into eternal rest Sunday morning, April 3, 2016, at his home on Ashton Road in Islandton. He was the loving husband of forty-six years to the late Mrs. Betty Ann Mixon Polk at the time of her death in 2008.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, April 6, 2016, from Rice Patch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 15246 Sniders Highway, Islandton. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in the churchyard.

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Wednesday afternoon prior to the funeral service beginning at 1:30pm that afternoon in the church sanctuary.

Born May 5, 1943 in Colleton County, South Carolina he was a son of the late Bernice Harold Polk and the late Mary Blanche Crosby Polk. Mr. Polk was a retired press operator from International Paper in Hampton, where he worked faithfully for over forty years. He was a longtime member of Rice Patch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Islandton where he was a former Deacon and had been active in many aspects of the church’s work. He was a member of the Hudson Masonic Lodge No. 373 Ancient Free Masons in Islandton where he was a forty year member. He was also a member of the Omar Shrine in Mount Pleasant and the Community Chapter No. 206 Order of The Eastern Star in Islandton. “Charlie Pop” was a well-known figure in the Islandton Community, always willing to lend a helping hand and do for others in anyway needed. He was a First Responder with the Islandton Station 15 of the Colleton County Fire and Rescue. An avid sportsman having dedicated countless hours to rebuilding the community fields and serving for many years as the coach of the Islandton Rebels Softball Team. He was a farmer who loved planting his fields and tending to his cows and he will always be remembered for his love of fishing.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold D. Polk.
