Roscoe - Franklin Goodnight, 90, who helped drive herds of cattle through West Texas in the late 1830's and a pioneer Roscoe resident, died at 5 a.m. Saturday in Hendrick Memorial Hospital in Abilene following a short illness.

Funeral will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday in the First Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Walter Driver and the Rev. R. L. Butler of Sweetwater officiating. Burial will be in the Roscoe Cemetery under direction of Wells Funeral Home.

Mr. Goodnight was born March 10, 1870 on Mountain Creek in Dallas County and was reared near Mansfield. He married Molly Porter on Dec. 3, 1891 and they moved to Roscoe in 1907. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Goodnight was the youngest child of Isaac Shelby and Jane (Curry) Goodnight, who moved to Texas before the Civil War. His father's family were among the earliest settlers of Kentucky, and his great-grandfather was said to be the first child born in Kentucky.

Mr. Goodnight was public weigher in Roscoe for eight terms and resigned to enter the farming and cattle-raising business.

Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. J. L. Draper of Sweetwater.

Pallbearers are T. A. Singleton, Clyde Jay, Fred Clayton, Pat Mayes, Roy Morris and J. F. Gortney
