*Notes for SAMUEL MCCLELLAN:
In the 1850 Preble County, Ohio census, there is no "d" at the end of the surname. The children listed in this census are: Theodore, Margery, Washington B., Drusilla, Catherine, Newton, Louisa and Thomas J. The children not listed are Charles, John R., Samuel and Sarah. OBITUARY pasted in a Bible owned by Debbie Cooper:"DIED - On Friday morning, Dec. 27th, 1861, at his residence in Dixon township, Samuel McClellan, aged 76 years.

"The deceased was born in the State of Pennsylvania, whence his father's family removed to Kentucky, and settled near Millresburg, when the subject of this notice was but three years old. On the third day of Jan. 1812, he was married to Catherine Larsh; so that, at his death he wanted but six days of having been married 50 years. He continued to reside in Kentucky up to the year 1819, when he removed to and settled in this county, near to the place on which he resided at his death. He reared a large family of children, eleven of whom, (six sons and five daughters) together with his wife, survive him.
"Uncle Sam., (so everybody called him,) was widely known and highly esteemed. His kindness of heart and accommodating disposition were as widely known as was his genial, smiling face. None knew him but to love him. In every time of need, in sickness, in poverty, in every distress, he was ever ready with kind words and a helping hand. No kinder man ever lived, and none more fully enjoyed the esteem and confidence of his neighbors and acquaintances. -- His heart and his hand were ever open to the necessities and wants of the suffering and needy.

"During the greater portion of his long and useful life, he was a very active, industrious, hard working man, and did much in subduing the primitive forests, and to improve the country. For the past ten years, however, his health has been declining. Although much afflicted of late years, his cheerfulness and uniform kindness knew no abatement.
His las[t] sickness was borne with unusual patience and equanimity -- awaiting his departure with perfect composure and resignation.

"He was buried at Concord cemetery, on Sunday, attended by a very large concourse of relatives, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances." More About SAMUEL MC CLELLAN: Burial: December 29, 1861, Concord Cemetery, Dixon, Preble, Ohio Occupation: 1850, Farmer: Real Estate Value: 1850, $8,000
