Moved to Mercer County, Missouri in a covered wagon in the summer of 1850 arriving December 22, 1850.

Ebenezer and his son James Madison enlisted in 1861 in the Union Army. Ebenezer was 48, and James was 19. Ebenezer was in the 1st Regiment, Kansas Volunteer Infantry at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He was released from service in 1863 with a disability discharge (eye problems).

Ebenezer and Jane lived from about 1875 to 1897 in Gainsville, Cooke County, Texas. In the 1880 census of Mercer County, Missouri, Ebenezer is listed as blind, and by June 1892 they were in Topeka, Kansas, for treatment of his eye problems. Jane died in 1894 and is buried in Rawlins County, Kansas. Ebenezer died in September 1901 in Mercer County, Missouri, and is buried in the Tennessee Cemetery. His Army headstone reads E. Goodwin because Ebenezer's Army records are listed as both Goodwin and Goodin. His pension applications, etc. are signed with a mark and witnessed.
