Pearl Cockrell, 92, daughter of, Benjamin Franklin Knight and Edna Ethel Kuhns Knight, was born Feb. 24, 1907, in Nebraska. She died Aug. 1, 1999, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. MO.

She married Arthur Ree Cockrell. They had two children.

Mrs. Cockrell was a welder during World War II and later served as a waitress in various restaurants. She was a member of the Methodist church.

Mrs. Cockrell had been a resident of Houston House since December 1988 and enjoyed participating in exercise programs, playing bingo, singing and going on outings with other residents. She was crowned Ms. Houston House in 1990 and entered the district IV pageant in Springfield where she won first runner-up. She advanced to the state Ms. Missouri Nursing Home Pageant in St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Benny; stepson, Warren; two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are her daughter, Juanita Darby of California; three granddaughters and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services were Aug. 7 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arvel Schweighauser officiating. Burial was in the Big Creek Cemetery.
