Deborah Louise Cecil Smith, 67, wife of Leland Steele Smith, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 in Lexington. She was born on July 26, 1948 in Oneida, TN to the late Malvern Hill Cecil and Shirley Art Marcum Cecil. Deborah was a 1970 graduate from the University of Kentucky and special education teacher in the Fayette County School System. She was a member of the Providence Christian Church. She enjoyed collecting 1930 and 1940 era movies and working on the farm, where she was an active partner in raising Dexter beef cattle. She loved the ocean, spending her early life living on the North Carolina and Georgia coast. Deborah was very active in the Special Olympics program. She is also survived by one brother John Jason Cecil and other family members to mourn her passing. Deborah was also preceded in death by one son, Matthew Lucas Smith, and one brother Joe Cecil. Funeral service will be conducted at 2PM, Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Betts & West Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Johns officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11AM till 2PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Casket bearers will be Jonathan Prasse, David Evans, Judd Ellis, John Harmon and Chris Simpson
