He moved to Temple from Waco in 1988. He married Rosemary Stanford Messer January 6, 1989. He worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor with the Cen Tex Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation and with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He started several Celebrate Recovery Projects in the Central Texas area. He was a member of Temple Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife Rosemary Sims of Temple, one son Van Sims and his wife Becky of Lampasas; two daughters Cindy Hoskins and her husband Tom of Austin, Mitzi Garrett and her husband Gerald of San Antonio, Rosemary's daughters Sheryl Messer of McKinney and Sheila Riggan of Temple; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Monday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
