Mr. Sanford's obituary appeared in the Monroe News Star of the 26th. it states he was a retired farmer and carpenter. He died at Glenwood hospital in West Monroe.

The following survivors were listed in his obituary: Wife Otha, six daughters: Florine Kurtty of OK, Beatrice Worley of Monroe, Laurice Templeton of Houston, TX, Delores Miller of San Antonio, TX and Sherry Sanford and Linda Sanford, both of Calhoun, LA. eight sons: Arlis, James and Donnie of Calhoun, LA, Vollie, Jr., George Evin and Edwin of LaMarque, TX, Kenneith of San Antonio, TX and Eugene of Lafayette, CA. Three brothers were stated as survivors but only a brother and sister were listed by name: J.C. and Mrs. Dallas Mims of West Monroe, LA.

His WWI Draft Registration Card states he was born on the above date at Calhoun, LA. he was tall, slender built with blue eyes and brown hair. His WWII draft card shows he had no middle name.

The book, "Griggs Twigs and their Bryan Cousins" states Vollie was the son of Drucilla S. "Drula" Murphey and Marshal M. Sanford. Drucilla's parents, Zachariah and Sarah Herlong Murphey are also buried in Beulah. The 1910 Ouachita census shows Vollie and his siblings living as grandchildren in Zachariah's home. Marshall and Drusilla have stones in Beulah cemetery with no dates listed.
