SARAH EMMA ALLEN MOON was born the youngest daughter and the eighth child of a family of nine children of James and Mary Mills Allen. Her father and mother and eight of the children preceded her in death.

Sara Emma's birth date was October 9th, 1871. She was born in Quincy, Illinois, and passed from this life Wednesday, April 3, 1969, at 7:00 a.m., at the Decatur County Hospital, Leon, lowa, at the age of 97 years, 5 months, and 25 days.

She moved with her family to Iowa about 1883. In her girlhood days she and her five sisters and their father, James, were called "James Allen and his singing daughters."

In the year 1891, on May 6, she was united in marriage with Charles W. Moon, by Elder Asa Cochran one of the early elders in the history of the Lamoni church. They lived on a farm across the road from the R.L.D.S. church that was familiarly referred to as the Sheep Shed, from 1891, the year of their marriage until they moved into Lamoni in 1941.

To their union were born five children, a daughter who died in infancy, and the four sons who are here today—Walter A. and Willard C., of Lamoni; J. Orrin, of Independence, Missouri, and George Milton, who lived at home and helped with his mother's care for many years.

Sarah and Charles Moon celebrated their golden anniversary in 1941. Her companion died in 1952.

Besides her four sons, she is survived by her three daughters-in-law, Ruby, Cleo, and Jean; three grandchildren, Dale F. Moon, of Claremont, California, Sadi A. Negaard, of Independence, Missouri, and Wanda Bea Bain, of Cameron, Missouri; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in her youth, and endeavored to teach her children in that faith. When the weather was too inclement to bring the children to Lamoni to the Brick Church, she conducted a Sunday School class in the family living room. She taught from the quarterlies, played the reed organ, and she and the children sang from the Zion's Praises the songs of Zion.

Sarah Moon was always considerate of the poor and the needy in the years when the material things of the world were hard to come by. She walked long distances to do neighborly services.

Her mother's instincts continued into old age. When the small children of her neighborhood learned of the sweets and cookies and milk always available when they would call, they were frequent visitors in her home.

This week ended nearly a century of the good life of SARAH EMMA MOON.

Officiating ministers at the service at the RLDS Church were Elders Harold A. Tabor and Morton Edmunds. Burial was at Rosehill Cemetery.

...On the 6th of May, 1891, Mr. Moon married Miss Sarah Allen, a native of Kewanee, Illinois, and a daughter of James Allen, who came to the United States from England, his native country, about 1887 and is still running a mill in Lamoni. To Mr. And Mrs. Moon have been born four children: Walter, a student in Graceland College at Lamoni; Willard and Orrin, both of whom are attending the Lamoni high school; and George Milton, who is a public-school student.

Mr. Moon is a republican and has served in a number of township and school offices, making a very creditable record as an official. His wife and three eldest sons are members of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints. He is justly held in high esteem by those who know him and his success in his chosen occupation is due to this energy and good management.
