Bill was born to Charles & Elizabeth Green Messel.

He married Norma Jean Bunte October 22, 1951. They had two children: Susan Kay Messel Stephens and James Douglas Messel; two grandchildren: Doug Messel and Betsy Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and two sisters. He was the youngest of nine.

Bill had been employed at: Knox Consolidated Coal Co. and Indiana State Highway from May 1, 1948 until Jan. 27, 1951; and Public Service Indiana at Edwardsport Station from Jan. 28, 1951 until he retired from there on March 1, 1990. He was a charter member and officer of Public Service Edwardsport Plant and was employed by the Federal Credit Union for 31 years.

He was a member of the Methodist Church of Bicknell. He was a nine year member of the Indiana National Guard in Vincennes.

Bill was my cousin. I stopped in to see he and Jean occassionally. I will miss seeing him. He was a real good guy. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
