GEILE, Ruth Holly
Died September 28, 2006. Ruth graduated from Riverside Poly High School in 1937, and the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1941. She took a job teaching physical education at Antelope Valley High School on a temporary basis early in 1942, when one of the teachers eloped over Christmas vacation and called in to announce she would not be coming back. Ruth's first impression of Lancaster was that it was rather desolate, and she planned to take the job, get some experience and leave after six months. Instead, she ended up teaching for seven more years and staying in Lancaster the rest of her life. She married Lancaster native William Geile in 1948, and left teaching to raise a family. She was a honorary life member of the PTA and the American Association of University Women. She is survived by daughter, Holly, son Robert and his wife Erin, grandchildren Audrey, Andrew, Arden and Avery, sister-in-law Gerry and three nieces, Sheri, Teresa and Patti. She also had four "honorary" grandchildren, Courtney, Cara, Lane and Lauren. Over the years, she was also blessed with many wonderful friends, among whom were a number of her former students. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at Mumaw Funeral Home.
