Pauline M. Johnson, age 90, of Garretson, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Pauline was born on August 10, 1916 to Arnold and Gertrude (Schreurs) Dubbelde near Valley Springs, South Dakota. She grew up in the Garretson area where she would live out all of her years. She attended District # 58 Country School and was confirmed at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Garretson.

On June 10, 1936, Pauline married Melvin W. Johnson at Garretson. The couple moved onto the farm which they eventually bought in 1941. They continued farming until retiring in 1975. Melvin passed away on August 11, 1987. After Melvin's death, Pauline moved into Garretson in 1988.

Pauline was an active member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, for which she held many offices. She was a Diamond 4H Leader and an avid gardener. She had many artistic talents including: painting, sewing, and crocheting. She enjoyed dancing and following the Minnesota Twins. But above all, the most important part of Pauline's life was her family.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters: Jolene Barber and her husband, Chuck of Garretson; Deanna Santema of Brookings; Marie Nordstrom and her husband, Art of Garretson; Cindy Ghandour and her husband, Mike of Azusa, California; Paulette Eggers of Sioux Falls; Marilyn Volz of Anchorage, Alaska; and Carol Cleveringa and her husband, Merlin of Luverne, Minnesota; a daughter-in-law, Lois McCord of White Lake, South Dakota; sisters: Florence Bissell of New Mexico; Adeline Bornhoft of Brandon; and Melvina Bunkers of Dell Rapids; a special sister-in-law, Marge Dubbelde of Plymouth, MN; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
