Lt. Col. Alonzo E. Allington May 26, 1921- October 7, 2005 MIDLAND, GA— Lt. Col. Alonzo Edward Allington, 84 of Midland, Georgia died October 7, 2005 at Doctors Hospital. A Celebration of his life will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2005 at Covenant Woods, 5424 Woodruff Farm Road. Concluding the service, a Military service with Full Military Honors will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2005 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Alabama, with Reverend Mark Van Alstine officiating. His family will also have a Memorial Celebration Service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2005 at the First Christian Church in Sacramento, CA. according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus. Col. Allington was born May 26, 1921 in Woodbridge, California, son of the late Eliza Alice Morrill and Alonzo Eli Allington. Col. Allington retired in 1968 after 26 years service from the Army Air Corp and United States Air Force, where he receive many awards and citations. Col. Allington flew many missions during WWII and Korea some of which he was most proud of was flying troups and supplies over the Hump, The Himalayan Mountains between China, India and Bermuda. After his military service he was employed for 10 years with the State of California as a Computer Programer and retired in 1986. Survivors include his wife Zella Dadigan Allington of Midland, GA; a daughter Bonnie L. Orenstein and son-in-law Steve of Midland, GA; son Mark Alonzo Allington of Sacramento, CA; a grandson Austin Samuel Orenstein of Midland, GA; a sister Margaret Messing of Pheonix, AZ and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to 2005 Ida Cason Callaway Foundation, U.S. Hwy 27, Pine Mountain, GA 31822.
