The Hunnewell Standard, Hunnewell, Missouri, January 16, 1959

Mrs. Nelle E. Tannehill of Lakenan, former editor of the Hunnewell Standard, died at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Dr. and Mrs. G. L. Moir in Macomb, Ill., Wednesday morning, January 16, following an illness of several months.
Born Nelle E. Combs, near Galesburg, Illinois, January 11, 1897, she had observed hers 62nd birthday last Sunday. She was married to French Tannehill on February 13, 1921.
Mr. and Mrs. Tannehill, natives of Illinois, came to the Lakenan community seven years ago, and in July 1957, Mrs. Tannehill came to Hunnewell as the first editor of the Hunnewell Standard, when it succeeded the Graphic on July 12 that year. She continued in that position until June 27, 1958, when her health began to fail, and she was obligated to resign.
And following her resignation she entered a number of hospitals seeking relief from her illness, none of which were unable to cope with her deep seated malady.
She was removed from Barnes hospital in St. Louis to the home of her sister, Mrs. G. L. Moir at Macomb, about four months ago, where she has been bedfast sense gradually losing strength until the end came on Wednesday.
While associated with the Standard, Mrs. Tannehill made a host of friends here, who are saddened by her long suffering and death.
She was a member of the Christian church at Lakenan, and of the Lakenan grange, where she held the office of home economics chairman. She was also a member of the Republican Women's Club of Shelby County, and served as its first secretary. She was also acting postmaster at Lakenan for two years.
Surviving are her husband, A. F. (French) Tannehill of Lakenan; a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Jean Mitchell of Springfield, Illinois; Two grandsons, Jimmy and Jeffrey Mitchell; two sisters, Mrs. Moir and Miss Pearl Combs of Macomb; and a brother, Paul Combs, who resides in British Columbia, Canada.
Funeral services were held from the Bodsworth, Piper and Wallen funeral home in Macomb at 1:00 p.m. today, (Friday) after which the remains were taken to Galesburg for interment, where graveside rites were held.
Casket bearers were Benny Wright, Clay Goodwin, A. T. Moss, Charley Kendrick, Robert Jett and Paul Buckman.
Attending funeral services from this community were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Huntsberry, Mr. and Mrs. Benny Wright, Mrs. Charles Saunders, Mr. and Mrs. Clay Goodwin, Mr. and Mrs. Ash Porter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kendrick, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jett, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Moss, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Buckman and Mr. and Mrs. Arch Bowling.
