Bernhard Hermann Schueppel of Hatboro, Pennsylvania died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Abington Memorial Hospital. He was 85 years old. Bernhard was born September 26, 1927, the son of the late Rev. Ernst Otto Schüppel and the late Maria Schüppel (nee - Barkemeyer).

He is the beloved husband of Frieda J. Schueppel (nee - Gabel); loving father of Cynthia Stambaugh and her husband Tom; devoted grandfather of Christina and Emilee Stambaugh; sister of Fridlind Arnold and her husband Manfred.

Bernhard was born, raised, and educated in Delmenhorst, Oldenburg in Lower Saxony, in northwestern Germany near the city of Bremen. He emigrated to the United States in 1952, was married to Frieda J. Gabel in 1953, and was immediately drafted into the United States Army in July of 1953. Although it was during the Korean War, Bernhard did not serve overseas, and he was honorably discharged from the service in April of 1955. He then worked for twelve years as a butcher for the Berks Meat Packing Company in Philadelphia. When the Berks company closed, Bernhard found employment at the Soabar Company on Dungan Road in northeast Philadelphia as a machinist. He worked at Soabar until 1986, and then continued working, as the church sexton for St. John’s Episcopal Church of Huntingdon Valley, PA, until his retirement in 1999. Over the years, he was a member of the First German United Methodist Church in Philadelphia, the Willow Grove United Methodist Church, the Jarrettown United Methodist Church, and currently, Lehman Memorial United Methodist Church in Hatboro, PA. Bernhard and his wife Frieda have been residents of Hatboro, PA since 1966.

Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 9:30 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Lehman Memorial United Methodist Church, 300 South York Road, Hatboro, PA 19040. His graveside service followed at George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Avenue, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Steve McComas, pastor of Lehman Memorial United Methodist Church.
