What rejoicing there must have been in Heaven when on Wednesday evening (Feb. 10, 2016) Alene Thomas Blount, 86, of Waycross made her journey from earth to dwell eternally with her Heavenly Father above.

Mrs. Blount had resided at Miss Jo’s Personal Care Home on McDonald Street after an extended illness. She was born in Waycross to the late Fred Miller and Nezzie Irene Johnson Thomas. Mrs. Blount graduated from Valdosta State College with a Bachelor’s degree in English.

She was retired from GMAC. Mrs. Blount was a member of the American Association of University Women, and a volunteer with the Laubach Literacy Action Program through Concerted Services. She also volunteered as a Pink Lady at Satilla Regional Medical Center and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Edwin Blount, and one brother, Fred M. Thomas.

She was blessed with two daughters, Donna Everett (husband Earl) of Gurley, AL, Rebecca Snow (husband Rip) of Waycross; three grandchildren, Shannon Higginbotham and her husband Chase of Athens, AL, David Everett of Huntsville, AL, and Jackson Snow of Waycross; one great granddaughter, Madeline Higginbotham, Athens, AL; two sisters, Joyce Thomas of Waycross, and Virginia Beglin and her husband Mike of Avon, IN; special caregiver, Joletha Williams of Waycross; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 11 am at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend a special recognition and heartfelt thanks to Ms. Joletha Williams, personal caregiver. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501.
