Robert Franklin Fletcher was born 31 JULY 1831 in Ohio, the son of Hiram Fletcher and Melitta alia Melita alia Melita Gannett. He was the husband of Elizabeth Burris, and the father of 4 daughters and one son. He was a WI Civil War Veteran. He Enlisted at Greenbush, Sheboygan County, WI., on December 4, 1863; he served as a private in the 27th WI Infanatry, Company "F." He mustered out August 29, 1865, because of injuries. He fought in the Battle of Vicksburg, Warren County, MS; In May and June of 1863, Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's armies converged on Vicksburg, investing the city and entrapping a Confederate army under Lt. Gen. John Pemberton. On July 4, 1863, Vicksburg surrendered after prolonged siege operations. This was the culmination of one of the most brilliant military campaigns of the war. With the loss of Pemberton's army and this vital stronghold on the Mississippi, the Confederacy was effectively split in half.

By occupation, he was a carpenter.
