Wayne David Barkley, 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 4, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 24, 1925 in Oakland, Illinois, he was the son of the late Clabe and Gertie Frantz Barkley. Wayne was in the Navy during WWII and became an Assemblies of God minister in the late 1950s. He was recognized by the Assemblies of God for over 50 years of faithful service, 26 of which he served as Pastor of First Assembly of God in Wilmington, NC. He was married to Gloria Williams Barkley who preceded him in death. He was a member of North Haven Church in Raleigh.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His life was a reflection of his love for Jesus Christ. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughters: Susan B. Scott and husband, Derric Scott of Jemison, Alabama, Carolyn B. Duncan and husband Ken Duncan of Raleigh, son, Wayne David Barkley, Jr. and wife Cheri P. Barkley of Tabor City.

Wayne is also survived by his grandchildren: Christopher Bryan Duncan (Danielle), Michael Craig Duncan (Quinci), Sarah Beth Duncan, Katherine Scott Hilyer (Perry), and Stuart Lee Scott; great granddaughters: Hattie Grace Duncan and Harper Belle Duncan; and a family friend, Lloyd Tolson, who was like a grandson to him.

Family will receive friends on Monday, February 8,2016 at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will immediately follow, Raleigh Memorial Park.

The family would like to express special appreciation to the staff of Transitions LifeCare and Litchford Health Care of Raleigh for their loving and compassionate care given to Wayne. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations specified for "missions" may be sent to North Carolina District Office, P.O. Box 459, Selma, NC 27576.
