Margaret Ruth (Cargill) Kinney, 94, passed away Fulton Manor-Holland Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 22, 2014. She had resided at her home in Summit Township, Mason County, Michigan, until her move to Grand Rapids in September 2014.

Margaret was born in Hart, Michigan on July 15, 1920, and was a graduate of Hart High School. On September 23, 1939, she married Emery Houk Kinney at her parents’ home, the Cargill homestead east of Hart. Emery and Margaret lived in Mason County where Emery was employed on family farms and also in Midland County when he was employed at Dow Chemical Company. While he served in World War II, Margaret, son Gary, and daughter Sandra, lived in Hart until his discharge in 1946.

Emery, Margaret, and their children settled in Summit Township on the Kinney family dairy farm in 1947, built their home adjacent to the farm property, and enjoyed a long life there together until Emery passed away June 22, 2005. Margaret was a long-time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Riverton Township and Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church of Summit Township. She actively worked on many projects, committees, and programs. With her children, she was involved in many French School-related activities. She was employed for many seasons at the Ludington Fruit Exchange, in Summit Township and also worked as a nurse’s aide at Ludington Memorial Hospital in the 1960’s.

She is remembered with much love, admiration, and humor by family and friends. She was known for her beautifully landscaped yard, her thriving raspberry patch, and her love for the many home-centered family celebrations spanning more than 60 years.

Margaret is survived by her son, Gary (Janice) Kinney of Maryville, Tennessee; her daughter, Sandra (John) Keelean of Grand Rapids, Michigan; grandchildren, Scot (Jenny) Kinney of Toledo, Ohio, Marc (Jodi) Kinney of Davidsonville, Maryland, Sheila (David) Brothers of Paris, Kentucky, Matt (Diana Kampert) Keelean of Tallahassee, Florida, and Dan (Tara) Keelean of Burke, Virginia; and great-grandchildren, Travis, Michelle, Shane, Samantha, David, and Jonathan.
