DEATH NOTICE:

EVERETT, Donald Robert, 84, of Lamoni, Iowa, died on Monday, March 25, 2013 at his home in Lamoni. Memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Community of Christ Church in Lamoni with Stu Sherman and Jerry Hampton officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. Arrangements were through Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni.

Memorials may be given to the General Scholarship Fund at Graceland University.

DONALD ROBERT EVERETT ... Donald Robert Everett, age 84 of Lamoni, Iowa, the son of William Edward "Ed" and Chattie Catherine [McKay] Everett, was born January 10, 1929 in Dallas, Texas. He died at his home in Lamoni on Monday, March 25, 2013.

Don grew up in Dallas working at his dad's restaurant, Everett Cafe, in downtown Dallas. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1945. He went to Graceland College in Lamoni for two years then the University of Texas for another year. On December 7, 1950, he was inducted into the United States Army to serve during the Korean War. He served until November 22, 1952, when he was transferred into the reserves. After his honorable discharge on October 8, 1956, Don worked as a lumber salesman then home construction before starting his career as a process technician at Exxon.

While Don was stationed at Ft. Chaffee near Fort Smith, Arkansas, he met Anna Mae Schluterman at a military dance. Three months later they were married when Don was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas. They danced through life together for 62 years. they were blessed with five children, Deborah, Shannon, Kelly, Tim, and Catherine "Katie".

Don was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at age 8. He dedicated his life to his faith and served as a pastor in multiple congregations, was a board member of the Church Campground in Texas, and held the office of High Priest. He was a judge for the City of El Lago, Texas for 20 years. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, drank Dr. Pepper, and loved all sports - both playing and watching on TV. He played slow pitch softball until age 75. He was a great husband and a good father.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Wayne Everett; and sister-in-law Phyllis Everett. Survivors include his wife Ann of Lamoni; children, Debbie & Dwight Hines of Beaumont, Texas; Shannon & Rosemary Everett of Mansfield, Texas; Kelly & Tammy Everett of Lamoni; Tim & Vicki Everett of Huffman, Texas; and Katie & Charles Persall of Lamoni; 14 grandchildren and their spouses, Casey & Cassie Hines, Corey & Jolyn Hines, Clay Hines, Shane Everett, Chad & Brittany Everett, Christy Everett, Elizabeth & Kevin Lloyd, Jake & Erin Everett, Jennifer & Dan Doerfler, Kerbi & Nick Elsenbroek, Jacqui Everett & fiance Ryne Spicer, Kelsie & Benjy Lewis, Charlie Persall, and Catelin Persall; 10 great grandchildren, Audrey, Kelly, Tyson, Andrew, Ayden, Parker, Denton, Harper, Tatum, and Payton; nieces, Pam and Penny; sisters-in-law, Lorene & Larry Komp and Dorothy Bartsch; and other relatives and friends, including many of the kids's friends, who felt very close to Don and Ann.
