Henderson Benefield was son of Willis Benefield and Milley Forrester. He was married to Sarah Louisa Tackett. Their children were Cornelius N. Benefield, America S. Benefield Hillis, James Madison Benefield, Benjamin Jefferson Benefield and Mary Louisa Benefield Teague. He died in Pope county, Arkansas.

HENDERSON BENEFIELD was born 14 Nov 1809 possibly in Indiana. Due to the birth order and places of siblings births, as well as data given in census records by descendants it appears he was not born in North Carolina. He was the fifth child born to Willis Benefield and Miley Forrester. His family had moved from Orange County North Carolina to Tennessee by 1807. Then by 1809 they are in Indiana. Next they move to Scott County Missouri at least by 1818. They lived in Sikeston township there. Henderson is found in the 1830 USC Moreland, Scott County Missouri married with no children. It listed one male between age 20 and 30 years and one female listed between 15 and 20 years. He married Sarah Louisa Tackett about 1827 in Scott County Missouri. She is born 1811 in Henry County Kentucky to Lewis Tackett and Mary Basham and dies February 2, 1894 in Jefferson, Marion County, Texas. Henderson and Sarah’s first three children are born 1830 (Cornelius N. Benefield), 1834 (America S. Benefield) and February 1837 (James Madison Benefield) in Scott County, Missouri. By 1838 they are located in Pope County, Arkansas where Henderson Benefield is noted paying poll tax there. On December 28, 1839 their son Benjamin Jefferson Benefield was born in Pope County, Arkansas. Their last child (Mary Louisa Benefield) was born in 1844 in Pope County, Arkansas.

Noted in the Western Arkansas Biographies and Historical Memoirs Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Western Arkansas POPE COUNTY; page 204 gives Henderson Benefield as 1842 residing in Pope County, Arkansas.
It is surmised he was a farmer as this was the prime occupation in this area during this time period.

He is not listed in the 1847 Tax List of Pope Co., Ark. Bennefield, A.? Bennefield, C. M Bennefield, Willis [no poll] (C. M. and Willis Bennefield are Henderson’s brothers; Henderson dies April 30, 1847 probably before the tax was assessed.
In "The American Pioneers" Tackett-Tacket-Tackitt Families of America, magazine Vol. XI, No.4., page 732-733a. Presents a letter written by M. D. Tackett to his wife, Emeline R. Tackitt, March 1, 1847 Ft. Gibson, Ark. during the Mexican War. In the letter he writes "Loomis to furlow ten men out of each company for 30 days so that they can go home and see about making a crop and there will be ten men from our company start home in the morning, amongst them will be Willis Benefield and I will send Dolly home by him as I find it is two expencive to keep her here for it will be some time before I can get the chance to come home if I do before my time is out on account of my staying so long when I was at home but I will try to get off in April or May if I have good luck."...Tell father and mother and Nathan I want to see them very bad and tell them to do the best they can and take care of things until I come home. Caleb and his ladies is well. Well tell Henderson (Benefield) it is now tattoo and I must bring this letter to a close so I will wish you and the children a good night sleep that you may not be lonesome buth cheerful when you awake..." NOTE: This is our Henderson Benefield and his brother Willis Benefield, and Caleb (Davis) who was marr. to Elizabeth Tackett...M. D. Tacket's sister. From this data above it seems they were in Capt. David West Company B, Battalion. In the muster roll list in the "Early History of Pope County" by D. Porter West, it list Willis Benefield and Caleb Davis. Henderson Benefield dies soon after this letter on April 30, 1847. Henderson’s death is recorded in application to probate estate by his wife, Sarah Tackett Benefield and Caleb Davis, her brother in law who married Elizabeth Tackett, Sarah’s sister.
