Ernestine “Ernie” Virginia Andrews Poole, 80, of Bryant, Ark., formerly of Jena, La., died Thursday, January 14, in Benton, Ark. She was born in Nickel, La., on April 8, 1935, to Stantford L. “Buddy” Andrews and Rosa Roark Andrews.
Ernie graduated from Jena High School in 1953 and two years later, on Sept. 1, 1955, she married Nathan H. Poole, Jr. of Enterprise, La.
She worked as a bank teller at Delta Bank and Trust in Port Sulphur and at the LaSalle State Bank in Jena. She was also a receptionist for Dr. Sanit Sirikul and later worked as the receptionist at First Baptist Church Jena, where she retired in 2002.
A dedicated member of First Baptist Church, Ernie organized the food pantry and for over forty years served on the Mission Action Committee, which reached out to those in need in the community and around the world. She taught youth Sunday school and loved to sing in the choir.
Ernie was preceded in death by her parents and by her sisters, Christine Andrews Brewer and Carolyn Andrews. She will be deeply missed by her loving family: husband, Nathan “N.H.” Poole, Jr. of Bryant, Ark., formerly of Jena; daughter, Yvette Poole Palmer of Little Rock, Ark., and son, Stan Poole and his wife, Sue White Poole of Arkadelphia, Ark.; her brothers Ronald (Joanne) Andrews and Max (Rita) Andrews of Jena, her sister, Mallie Andrews Lewis of Monroe; her four grandchildren, Matthew (Leah) Palmer, Michelle Palmer, Anna Grace (Reece) Franklin, and Caroline Poole; three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and Teresa “Bit” Stephens of Little Rock, Ark., who was like a daughter.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home in Jena, La., from 3:00-6:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until time for the service on Monday. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Jena at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Aimoch Baptist Church cemetery in Nickel, LA, immediately following the service.
Pallbearers are Mark Andrews, Kenneth Boothe, Danny Chapman, Jim Lewis, Tim Lewis, Curtis Roark, and Nathan Roark. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Mission Action Committee of First Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Fox Ridge Assisted Living in Bryant, Ark. In lieu of flowers, Ernie requested contributions to the Mission Action Ministry of First Baptist Church Jena.

Ernestine “Ernie” Virginia Andrews Poole, 80, of Bryant, Ark., formerly of Jena, La., died Thursday, January 14, in Benton, Ark. She was born in Nickel, La., on April 8, 1935, to Stantford L. “Buddy” Andrews and Rosa Roark Andrews.
