Jacob and his children (Jacob Jr, Amos, Elizabeth, Catherine & Susan) are accounted for in the July 1865 Illinois state census in Carroll County. Sons Jacob Jr & Amos had arrived in Illinois, prior to 1860. Jacob Sr. & his daughters moved to Carroll County, approximately the same time as his niece (Nancy Ann) and her two children (Rachel & George) in the spring of 1865. The map posted on this memorial indicates Jacob SR. was still living in West Hempfield, Lancaster Co, in 1864. Like many families of the era who intended on migrating west, they were waiting for the conclusion of the Civil War before traveling to their destinations.

Known children of Jacob & Mary (Garlock) Kline:

CHRISTIAN KLINE; b abt 1831, married, died or burial UNKNOWN.

MARY KLINE; b abt 1833, had a daughter with an UNKNOWN EATON, named ANNIE R EATON, who married JOHN SCHREINER. Mary Kline died between Feb 1852 & June 1860, likely in or close to Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania. Unknown when/where Mr. Eaton died or if Mary and he actually married.

JACOB G. KLINE JR; b Nov 1834, died after 1900/1910, burial unknown.
Jacob 1st married, on Aug 23, 1859, in Carroll Co, Illinois, to:
EMILY S. HEALY (1840-1862). They had a son Charles, born about 1861.
Jacob 2nd married, on Dec 24, 1865, in Carroll Co, Illinois to:
CATHERINE B. ALDERFER (March 1831/PA - after June 1900).
By 1870, Jacob a "cigar maker", has moved on from farming in Carroll Co; to where he's living in Sterling, Whiteside Co, Illinois, with Catharine, son Charles and his step daughter, Lizzie R. Alderfer. By 1880, Jacob, Catherine and Lizzie, have moved on to Greensborough, Caroline Co, Maryland, where they're farming. By 1900, Jacob and Catherine have moved on, to Franconia Twp, Montgomery Co, Pennsylvania, where they're living in the Jeremiah & Amanda Alderfer household. In 1910, Jacob may be living by himself, widowed, in S. Hanover, Dauphin Co, Pennsylvania.

AMOS KLINE; (Oct 14 1836 - Oct 30 1914)
In 1860 he is in Carroll Twp., Carroll Co, Illinois, enumerated in the Michael & Mary Shelly household, working as a "blacksmith". Michael is also a blacksmith from PA. In 1865 he is living a short distance from his father and siblings in Carroll Twp, Carroll Co, Illinois.

LA(U)RA KLINE; b abt 1839, married, died or burial UNKNOWN.

ELIZABETH G. (KLINE) ARNOLD; (Nov 21, 1843 - Mar 26, 1919)

CATHERINE KLINE; born abt 1846, married, died and burial UNKNOWN. Both the 1850 & 1870 census enumerates her birth year as about 1846. Since she is not listed in her father's household in 1860, she may be the Catharine Kline listed in the Martin & Sarah Grube household, a short distance away from her father in Rapho Twp, with a birth year of about 1842. Martin was a tavern keeper and was likely employed by him, hence the birth year being off as the census info was given to the enumerator by Martin. In the 1880 census for Carroll County, Illinois, Catherine "Kate" is enumerated in her father's household, with a birth year of about 1841. No other records are known to exist indicating she married or when and where she died. In addition, her age in the 1865 census cited above, along with her age listed in the 1850 & 1870 censuses, would strongly imply that she and her sister Susan were twins.

SUSAN G. (KLINE) PHILLIPS (Mar 1846 - Aug 10, 1923)

Note: It's likely the known middle initial of "G", for Jacob Sr. & Mary's children, stands for 'Garlock', as it was their mother's maiden name.
