mountainside above Premier, West Virginia,
during a thunderstorm.

The airplane was enroute to Florence,
South Carolina with pilot trainees.

A C-49 was an American Airlines Douglas DC-2
commandeered by the Army and pressed into
military transport service during the early
stages of World War II due to aircraft
shortages.
