He came to Colorado in 1928, farming at Wylie and Lamar until moving to Los Animas where he married Laura Layton Jan. 16, 1939.
They farmed there until 1949, when they came to Greeley and he was employed by the highway department until he retired in 1969. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and a former member of LOOM No. 909.
Survivors include his wife, Laura; three daughters, Mrs. Calvin (Mary) Thornton of Holyoke, Mrs. Robert V. (Alice Marie) Leonard of South Fork, Mrs. Geneva Babbit of Greeley; and son, Peter Dinkel Jr., of Ault; brothers, Andrew Dinkel of Dodge City, Kan., Alex Dinkel of Fort Collins; sisters, Mrs. Mary Harper of Ness City, Kan., and Mrs. Anna Long of Topeka, Kan.; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren.
