Clifton Lester Canright, known simply as Lester, was born the son of Lester Joel and Catherine Eliza Curtiss Walker Canright.

(Note: Lester's siblings will be added to his online memorial when the research regarding them is complete).

He married Adah May Hall, daughter of Orley and Eva Morley Hall, on December 25, 1891, in Burlington, Michigan. Adah was 17 and Lester was 21. According to the 1900 census, Adah's brother, T. Charlie Hall (born Feb. 1879, single), also lived with them; at that time they resided in Battle Creek, Calhoun Co., Michigan. Lester and Charlie are both listed as day laborers.

Lester and Adah had four children:
Leslie J. Lester Canright
Medah Blanche Canright Nicholson Duckworth La Turno
Clifton Orley Canright Horton
Beulah Evelyn Adah Canright Hannant Butts

Adah passed away in 1909 at the age of 35 of typhoid fever. After Adah's death, Leslie J. Lester went to live with his paternal aunt, Frances May Sprague, better known as Auntie Franc. For a time, Medah Blanche lived with her maternal grandparents, Orley and Eva Hall; she was then raised by her maternal aunt, Bessie Elvira Hall Katz Walsworth. Clifton Orley was adopted by William H. and Sarah L. Horton, who were family friends, and Beulah Evelyn Adah was adopted by Charles and Alma Hannant, who were also family friends. The siblings did not reunite until early adulthood.

Although Lester remarried twice after Adah passed away, upon his death he was buried beside her and they share a headstone.

Lester's second wife was Bertha R. Austin Marshall Armour, born in Calhoun Co., Michigan, and they were married in Battle Creek, Calhoun Co., Michigan, on August 13, 1915. He was 44 and she was 42. Her parents were David Austin and Esther Brooks Austin. (Bertha's first marriage was to Orrin R. Marshall on December 31, 1891; her second marriage was to Sidney A. Armour on January 10, 1911).

Clifton Lester's third wife was Melissa Oberlin.
