Congressman. He was the father of Oliver Dickey, who also served in Congress. John Dickey was appointed postmaster of Old Brighton in 1818 and held the position until 1821. He was Beaver County Sheriff from 1824 to 1827, and served in the Pennsylvania Senate from 1835 to 1837. In 1842 Dickey was elected to Congress as a Whig and served from 1843 to 1845. In 1846 he was again elected to the US House and served from 1847 to 1849. In 1852 he was appointed US Marshal for Pennsylvania's Western District, a position he still held at the time of his death.
