Erected in August 2006, the monument is dedicated to the memory of the victims and survivors of Hurricane Katrina, August 29, 2005 and Hurricane Rita, September 24, 2005. The two hurricanes were the worst back to back natural disasters in the history of the State of Louisiana in terms of loss of life and property.
