Kathleen Olive (Jewett) Seale, 99, of Merrillville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru, IN. She was born July 6, 1916 in Wolcott, Indiana to Robert S. and Olive S. (Scifert) Jewett. Kathleen’s education began in a rural one-room schoolhouse and culminated at Purdue University in 1938 with a teaching degree in Home Economics, Physical Education and Biology. Kathleen taught all three subjects at Merrillville High School over a long career.
Kathleen and her husband of 58 years, Joseph J. Seale, enjoyed gardening and traveled extensively across the United States during summer months, loading up a Volkswagen bus with their four children and camping supplies. The pair continued to travel after their retirement, making their way by boat and plane to destinations around the world.
It is difficult to chronicle the many changes that she witnessed throughout her life, some miraculous, some painful, but all contributing to her strong, insightful and loving personality.
She is survived by her children, John (Judy) Seale, Merrillville, IN; Ruth (Wally) Bennett, Walton, IN; Jane (Bob) Megquier, Chicago, IL; and Kerry (Marty) Sher, Floyd Knobs, IN. She was blessed with eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Nancy (James) Jones of Lafayette, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph on August 27, 2002.
