Craig—Near, Ghent, Ky., Friday night, August 5, 1892, Walton Craig
Mr. Craig was born in Gallatin County, now Carroll County, Ky., July 29, 1803. He united with the Baptist Church in Ghent when fourteen years of age. He married Miss Laurinda Peak, of Scott county, KY., who died August 15, 1872. Nine childred blessed this union, two of whom died in childhood. The surviving children are: Bettie, (Mrs. Fisher), of Covington, Ky.; Eva (Mrs. Frank), Benjamin and Leonidas; in Missouri; Dudley P., Ghent; Walton E., Cincinnati; Dr. Albert G., Vevay.
His second wife was Mrs. C. M. Eaton, who died several years ago.
In early life Mr. Craig was a flatboat and steamboat pilot, and afterwards a merchant and a farmer. He was successful in all his business undertakings. No man ever questioned his integrity and he faithfully discharged every duty as a business man and citizen. He was liberal in his donations for religious, educational and benevolent purposes. He was a very charitable man.
Mr. Craig was by instinct and education a gentleman. His life was as pure and honorable as it was long.
Funeral services were held at the family residence, near Ghent, last Sunday afternoon; conducted by the pastor of the Ghent Baptist Church, of which he was a member, assisted by the pastor of the Christian Church.
A large number of neighbors and friends, many from Vevay being among them, were present to pay their last tribute of affection and esteem to the memory of this venerable and good man.
