OLLIE SAMANTHA MARTHA CAROLINE BAKER SPURLOCK

Ollie was born on December 31, 1860 in Taladaga County, Alabama to Bartholomew Baker and Elizabeth Harriet White Baker. She died December 29, 1945 in Athens, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana.

Ollie's mother is buried in Hurricane Cemetery, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. Her gravestone reads, E.H. Baker, wife of B. Baker. Ollie's father is cited as dying November 11, 1867 at Bayou Macon, Tensas Parish, Louisiana during migration from Alabama.

Ollie married James Joshua Spurlock on September 12, 1879 in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, when she was 18 years old. From this union five children were born. James Joshua passed away on February 20, 1889, in Athens, Louisiana, at the age of 35. They had been married for 9 years. The Homer Guardian, January 25, 1889 states that James died from the effects of cancer.

After the death of James Joshua Spurlock, Ollie was left alone with their young children. I am sure that her life wasn't easy during that time.

Children: Ransom B., William H., Ora Bell, George W. and Flora L. Spurlock.

In 1893 Ollie married James D. Mounce who was born about 1849 in Alabama, and died before 1900 in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. To this union one daughter, Eliza Ann Mounce was born Sept. 21, 1893 in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. I do not have any information on the burial site of James D. Mounce. James died while on a fishing trip. He had an epileptic seisure and fell out of a boat and drowned.
